Dutch farmers and contractors are not only experts in reclaiming land form the sea, but also experts in deep ploughing to improve soil conditions. Specialist firm Van Werven has been carrying out this work for a long time. For the 2017 season two brand new top of the league Fendt tractors are used. The 1050 Vario (500 HP) and 939 Vario S4 (390 HP). Each the biggest model in their own series. Together they plough the soil up to a depth of 1.80m using a home made plough. Deep ploughing is done to bring sand on top and bury the heavy clay. it also increases the soil organic matter (SOM) of the soils. This makes it more versatile and easily to work with. In this particular case the field will be converted to organic farm. A range of vegetable crops can now be grown.
