The excavator accident had already happened a few days ago, but due to the strong current and the high water level in the past few days, an early rescue was not possible. The rescue work was supported by the Hagen fire brigade with current rescuers and divers from the water rescue service as well as the volunteer fire brigade. Two 60t mountain cranes were also in use. As an aside: Exactly this excavator had once been lying on its side in a river, about five years ago it had slipped into the river bed of the Lenne.
